FAQs

Do you offer non-electric bikes?

We specialize in electric bike rentals. Our fleet consists entirely of E Bikes, offering pedal assist and a smooth ride, perfect for exploring the Great Southern Rail Trail with ease.

What happens if it rains?

If heavy rain is forecast, we recommend rescheduling for your safety and comfort. We’ll contact you directly if your booking is affected by weather.

Can I reschedule my booking?

Yes. Email us at ride@greatsouthernride.com.au with your preferred new date. We’ll do our best to accommodate your request.

Can you transport my personal E Bike?

Our transport service is available only for Great Southern Ride E Bikes. We’re unable to transport bikes from other brands.

Do you offer transport-only services?

Transport is included with our E Bike rental packages. For standalone transport, we recommend contacting local providers in Gippsland.

I haven’t ridden in years. Can I still rent an E Bike?

Absolutely. Our E Bikes feature step-through frames, cushioned saddles, and adjustable pedal assist. Whether you're a beginner or returning rider, you can enjoy the trail at your own pace.

Where do I collect and return my E Bike?

All rentals are picked up and returned at: 91 Whitelaw Street, Meeniyan, Victoria. Our team will provide a quick orientation before your ride begins.

What are your E Bike rental rates? 
  • Half-Day (4 hours): $75 
  • Full-Day (7 hours): $120 Each rental includes a helmet, trail map and a fully charged battery. 
Is a security deposit required?

Yes. A refundable deposit is collected at pick-up and returned when the E Bike is returned in good condition.

What if I return the bike late? 
  • Half-day rentals returned after 4 hours will be charged as a full-day rental 
  • Full-day rentals must be returned by 4:00 PM 
  • Late returns may incur additional fees 
What is your cancellation policy? 
  • Full refund for cancellations made at least 48 hours in advance 
  • No refund for cancellations within 24 hours of your booking 
  • A 10% administration fee applies to each E Bike order 
Is wearing a helmet mandatory?

Yes. Helmets are required under Australian cycling laws. We provide one with every rental.

What should I wear for my ride?

We recommend comfortable clothing, closed-toe shoes, and bringing sunglasses and sunscreen, especially during warmer months.

What if my E Bike has a mechanical issue during the ride?

Our E Bikes are regularly serviced. If you experience any issues, contact us using the support number provided at pick-up. We’ll assist you as quickly as possible.

What does our privacy policy cover

Godzula Pty Ltd ACN 643 608 084 trading as Great Southern Ride (GSR) understands the importance of protecting the privacy of your personal information, and is committed to complying with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs). This policy outlines how GSR will comply with our privacy obligations and explains how and why we collect, use and disclose personal information, how we keep information secure, and how you can access the information we hold about you.

How and why we collect your personal information

  • We collect your personal information for the primary purpose of allowing us to supply you with Bike and Equipment hiring services and related products.  
  • Your personal information includes personal details such as your name, date of birth, email address, physical address and telephone number, as well as financial information such as your credit card details (we do not keep your credit card details permanently on file, we keep for the period of hire and finalisation of the hire). 
  • We will generally only collect personal information directly from you. This occurs when you visit our website, hire from us or purchase products with us, make enquiries about our products and services, or otherwise communicate with us online, via email or by phone.
  • If at any time you provide us with personal information about someone other than yourself (for example, if you hire a bicycle on behalf of a family member or friend), you warrant that you have the person’s explicit consent to provide such information for the purposes specified. You acknowledge that we may require you to provide us with proof of such consent.  We will take reasonable steps to notify the other person of the collection of their personal information.

How we use and disclose your personal information

  • We do not sell, rent or trade your personal information to third parties and will only disclose your personal information to third parties where the disclosure is consistent with this privacy policy, or you have consented to the disclosure, or the disclosure is required or authorised (either at law, by a court order, or by a decision of a government agency or department).
  • We use personal information for the primary purpose of allowing us to supply you with Bike and Equipment hiring services and related products.  This includes when we:
  1. sell and promote our products and services to you, including when you inquire about a Bike or you collect a Bike or any Equipment;
  2. communicate with you about providing support relating to our hire services, including dealing with claims and responding to your complaints and enquiries;
  3. consider and improve the range of our offerings or seek to learn of your preferences so that we can promote our hire services to you in a way which may be of most interest to you; and
  4. give information to our advisors, service providers and insurers who help us run our business.
  • GSR will only use or disclose personal information for a purpose other than the primary purpose if one of the following exceptions applies:
  1. you have consented to our use of the personal information in that way;
  2. you would reasonably expect GSR to use or disclose your personal information for the secondary purpose, and the secondary purpose is related to the primary purpose;
  3. the use or disclosure is required or authorised by or under an Australian law or a court or tribunal order;
  4. use or disclosure is necessary for public health and safety reasons, to allow action to be taken in relation to unlawful activities or misconduct, or for the purposes of legal action, enforcement or dispute resolution.
  • GSR may use information we collect for the purposes of direct marketing, unless you opt out. An ‘opt-out’ option will be available on all direct marketing GSR sends to you. 
  • GSR does not disclose your personal information to overseas recipients, however our cloud provider may from time to time host information overseas. 

How we hold your personal information and keep it secure 

  • GSR stores your information on our internal systems which we have taken reasonable steps to ensure are secure. GSR will take reasonable steps to protect your personal information from misuse, interference and loss, and from unauthorized access, modification or disclosure.  Some of the ways we do this are: 
  • limiting access to our employees who need access to the information, requiring our employees to adhere to confidentiality requirements and undertake training, with regular monitoring and review of information security; and
  • maintaining and implementing storage security policies and security measures for access to our systems (including controlling access to buildings and electronic security systems).
  • GSR will destroy and/or de-identify the personal information it holds about you where it is no longer required, unless we are otherwise required or authorized by law to retain it.

Access and Correction of personal information 

  • You may request access to your personal information that we hold. Requests for access to personal information should be made to GSR, using the contact details provided below. In some circumstances, the law permits us to refuse your request, such as where giving access would pose a threat to public health or safety, impact on the privacy of others, or would be unlawful. Where GSR has refused access to personal information on these grounds, GSR will give you written notice of the reasons for the refusal and the complaint mechanisms available to you.
  • GSR will endeavour to respond to requests for access to personal information within 30 days. GSR may charge you for costs associated with retrieving and providing the personal information requested. We may also ask that you include verification details and/or documentation so we can confirm who we are communicating with. Please also ensure that you identify, as clearly as possible, the specific information to which you are seeking access.
  • You may seek correction of your personal information that GSR holds. In such circumstances, we will take reasonable steps to correct your personal information, taking into account the purpose for which it is held, its accuracy, the reasonableness and the relevance of your correction request.  If your personal information has been disclosed to a third party, we will take reasonable steps to notify the third party of any such correction. 
  • If accuracy of your personal information remains an issue or is contested by you, we may elect to not continue to use it, and/or destroy or delete it.

Varying this policy

GSR may vary this policy from time to time, in its sole and absolute discretion. If we do, the updated policy will apply to all of your information held by us at the time.

Making a complaint

You may also use these contact details to notify GSR of any privacy complaint you have, including if you think GSR has failed to comply with the APPs.  We are committed to dealing with your complaint in a prompt manner and we will give you an estimated timeframe for when we will respond to your complaint. How do we collect your information?

We collect your personal information from you directly when you visit our website, telephone us or speak with us, or when you hire Bikes and Equipment from us, make enquiries about our products and services, and/or otherwise communicate with us (online, via email or by phone). We may also collect your personal information from third parties, such as if a family member or friend hires a Bike on your behalf.

What types of personal information do we collect?

The type of personal information we collect includes personal details such as your name, date of birth, email address, physical address and telephone number, as well as financial information such as your credit card details (which we keep for the period of hire and finalisation of the hire).

Why do we collect your information and how do we use it?

We collect your personal information to allow us to supply you with Bike and Equipment hiring services and related products. To do this, we may provide such information to our advisors, service providers and insurers. We do not send your personal information to any overseas recipients, however our cloud provider may from time to time host information overseas. 

If credit card details are provided, they will be securely stored, and deleted or destroyed once you have paid in full for the hiring services, you have returned the hired bike/s and equipment, and your booking (including the payment of any repair costs, late fees or other amounts owing to GSR) is in all respects complete. 

What happens if we can’t collect your information?

If you do not provide certain information we require for the hire, we may refuse the hire or any part of it.

TERMS OF HIRE

What do you need to know

1. Application

These Terms of Hire (Terms) apply to the hire of all bicycles and electronic bicycles (Bike(s)) and related equipment including helmets, child carriers and trailers (Equipment) by Godzula Pty Ltd ACN 643 608 084 trading as Great Southern Ride (GSR) to you (Customer) as at the date and time we confirm our acceptance of your Hire Order Form.

2. Interpretation

In these Terms:

Bike means all forms of bicycle (including e-bikes). 

Bike Laws means all laws and rules relating to cycling, including road and trail use.

Customer means a person who submits a Hire Order Form, and to whom GSR hires a Bike or Equipment to. Where the Customer is under 18, Customer also means their parent or guardian.

Equipment means any equipment hired or loaned to a Customer including but not limited to a bike helmet, bike lock, emergency repair kit, bike lights, e-bike batteries, and child carriers and trailers. 

Hire Fee means the amount payable by the Customer for the hire of the Bike and any Equipment, as set out in the Hire Order Form.

Hire Order Form means the GSR hire order form setting out the Customer’s details, details of the Bike and Equipment hired (including sizes), the Hire Period, and the Hire Fee.

Hire Period means the duration of the Bike and Equipment hire as set out in the Hire Order Form.

Road Rules means the Road Safety Road Rules 2017 (Vic) as amended from time to time.

3. Eligibility

3.1 To hire a GSR electronic bicycle or any carrier or trailer, the Customer must be at least 18 years old. To hire a regular bicycle the Customer must be at least 13 years old.  Photo identification to confirm age must be provided.

3.2 All Customers must be aware of the Road Rules and able to ride a Bike competently and independently, without being a danger to themselves or another person.  

3.3 GSR may in its sole discretion deem a person ineligible to hire a Bike and/or Equipment if they are (in GSR’s reasonable opinion) unable to demonstrate compliance with these eligibility conditions or for any other reason.

4. Orders, Acceptance and Cancellation

4.1 Following the Customer’s submission of a Hire Order Form, GSR will contact the Customer to confirm or reject the order.  GSR may reject orders for any reason, including if insufficient Bikes and/or Equipment are available for hire, the relevant sizes are not available, or if (in GSR’s reasonable opinion) the person submitting the Hire Order Form does not demonstrate compliance with the eligibility conditions in section 3.

4.2 If an accepted order is later cancelled by the Customer, but cancellation occurs at least 48 hours before the hire is due to commence, any payments made to GSR by the Customer will be refunded less bank charges and less an administrative fee of $15.  A cancellation confirmation email will be sent to the Customer.  The Customer is responsible for ensuring that GSR has up-to-date contact details for the Customer at all times.

4.3 If an accepted order is cancelled by the Customer less than 48 hours before the hire is due to commence (including if a Customer fails to collect the Bike and/or Equipment), the Customer will not be entitled to any refund of monies paid to GSR in respect of the cancelled hire.

4.4 If the Customer's own a bike in GSR's reasonable opinion that is deemed to be unsuitable for use with a GSR trailer, GSR may refuse to provide the GSR trailer. 

5. GSR Obligations

5.1 GSR will provide Bikes in a ‘ready to ride’ condition, Bike and Equipment sizing per the Hire Order Form, and will adjust the seat height, suspension and brake lever for the Customer upon collection.

5.2 If you require assistance with bike repairs during the Hire Period (not relating to damage caused by your misuse of the bike or failure to comply with these Terms), GSR will use reasonable endeavours to assist with repairs or to provide a replacement Bike or Equipment.

6. Customer Obligations 

6.1 Payments

The Customer must:

(a) pay to GSR the Hire Fee (inclusive of GST), and other applicable charges, on submission of the Hire Order Form; and 

(b) pay a fee of $20 per hour or part thereof for late returns (the per hour charge being incurred once the Hire Period expires and this fee is triggered in the first minute of each subsequent hour that the return is late).

6.2 Use of Bikes and Equipment

The Customer must:

(a) take reasonable care of the Bike and Equipment at all times whilst in his/her possession, use the Bike only to the extent of the Customer’s level of experience and ability, and not allow any other person to use the Bike or Equipment; 

(b) keep the Bike and Equipment secure from theft or damage whilst in his/her possession, and notify GSR immediately of any loss or theft of the Bike or Equipment;

(c) ride the Bike in accordance with the Bike Laws and Road Rules, in a safe manner (no doubling, jumping or hopping, no riding on footpaths unless a designated bike path), and respecting all other users of the roads and the Great Southern Rail Trail;

(d) wear their helmet at all times, not ride under the influence of drugs or alcohol, not use or allow a child carrier or trailer to be used on a road with a child in it, and not allow another person to ride on the bike with the Customer, including on any attachment such as a child seat or buggy; and

(e) return the Bike and Equipment to GSR by the end of the Hire Period in good order and in the condition as hired (fair wear and tear excepted), and report any mechanical problems or damage to the Bike and/or Equipment upon return to GSR. 

7. Title and Risk

7.1 The Customer will not have any right, title or interest in the Bike or Equipment except as a hirer with the right to possess and use the Bike and Equipment for the Hire Period in accordance with these Terms.  

7.2 The Bike and Equipment are at the Customer’s risk from the point of collection by the Customer until the Bike and Equipment are returned to GSR.

8. Theft or Damage

8.1 GSR will inspect the Bike and Equipment on return to GSR. The Customer is responsible to cover the cost of any theft, loss or damage (fair wear and tear excepted) of or to the Bike and/or Equipment the subject of his/her Hire Order Form where it can be shown that the affected Bike or Equipment was not used or kept in accordance with section 6.2.  

8.2 Customer credit card details will be retained until return and inspection of the Bike and Equipment are complete. GSR will have the right to recover from the Customer and charge the Customer’s credit card for repair and replacement costs for lost, stolen or damaged Bikes for which the Customer is responsible under section 8.1 including:

(a) lost or stolen Bike: $2000

(b) lost, stolen or damaged helmet: $100

(c) lost stolen or damaged bike lock, emergency repair kit (whole or part), or bike light: $60 per item

(d) lost, stolen or damaged e-bike battery: $350

(e) lost, stolen or damaged child carrier or trailer: $400

9. Wet weather and equipment shortages

9.1 GSR is not responsible or liable if your Great Southern Ride experience is affected by inclement weather works or adverse conditions affecting the trail, or shortage of Equipment due to incorrect sizing.  GSR has the right to cancel any order or hire due to inclement weather, adverse trail conditions, actual or potential safety issues or mechanical or other issues with Bikes and/or Equipment.

9.2 If GSR cancels an order under section 9.1, GSR will refund to the Customer all amounts paid in respect of that hire, but GSR has no liability for further loss (whether direct, indirect or consequential) suffered or incurred by the Customer in connection with the cancellation by GSR. 

9.3 GSR has rain jackets and ponchos available for purchase if it is raining on the date of hire.  If the Customer chooses to cancel because of the weather (actual or forecast), the cancellation provisions in section 4.2 and 4.3 will apply.

10. Indemnity

10.1 To the full extent permitted at law, and subject to clause 10.3, the Customer agrees to indemnify, keep indemnified and hold harmless GSR from and against all claims, damages, liabilities, losses, demands, actions, costs and other expenses of whatever nature arising directly or indirectly from:

(a) any personal injury or death of any person or damage or destruction of any property arising from the Customer’s failure to comply with Road Rules or Bike Laws, failure to follow instructions or the Customer riding the Bike while under the influence of drugs or alcohol; 

(b) any theft, loss or damage to, or destruction of the Bike and/or Equipment due to the Customer’s failure to keep the Bike and/or Equipment secure;

(c) any willful damage to the Bike and/or Equipment by the Customer; and 

(d) any accident or incident involving a child carrier or trailer.

This indemnity shall be a continuing indemnity.

10.2 To the full extent permitted at law, and subject to clause 10.3, GSR excludes and disclaims all liability to the Customer in the event the Customer suffers or incurs loss caused by any of the circumstances set out in section 10.1.

10.3 The indemnity and exclusion of liability does not apply to the extent that a defect to the Bike or Equipment is caused by GSR's negligence or wilful misconduct. 

10.4 To the full extent permitted at law, GSR will not be liable for any injury or property damage arising from or connected to the Customer not following an instruction given by GSR (including where a Bike or Equipment is used incorrectly, or used with load size or weights that are incorrect or non-compliant), not following a Bike Law or Road Rule, or using the Bike or Equipment negligently or recklessly. 

11. General

11.1 Governing Law 

These Terms are governed by the laws of the state of Victoria, Australia and the parties submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Victoria.

11.2 Waiver 

The failure or delay in exercising a right in these Terms does not constitute a waiver or affect that party’s future ability to exercise that right.

11.3 Severability

If any provision or part of a provision of these Terms is unenforceable, that provision or part is to be severed and its severance does not affect the enforceability of the remainder of the provision or Terms.
