The Experience

Departing from Meeniyan, this scenic stretch of the Great Southern Rail Trail winds through bushland, open paddocks and stands of towering gums. As you approach Koonwarra, a striking row of amber trees leads you into a series of sealed underpasses and tunnels, where the trail gently weaves across the highway.
Enjoy sweeping views over a picturesque gully, followed by several charming bridge crossings — including the impressive Tarwin River Bridge. Its caged wooden decking creates a rhythmic click‑clack as you ride, with the historic trestle bridge standing proudly beside it.
This ride showcases some of South Gippsland’s best features: native bushland, farmland, local wildlife and the welcoming charm of both Meeniyan and Koonwarra. You’ll know you’re nearing Meeniyan again when the Community Gardens and local sculptures appear along the trail.
Perfect for all riders, it’s a beautiful, easy going way to experience the region’s natural highlights.
